Use of microwave and hot water at school
We have noticed a number of ākonga bringing noodles to school, and either looking for boiling water at school to cook them, or bringing a flask of boiling water with them to use at lunch time.
Expectations:
Year 3-6 ākonga can reheat precooked food in the microwave in the learning space, if they know how to use it safely and independently.
Ākonga are not to handle boiling or hot water at school. Please do not send noodles to school that require cooking in water. Pre-cooked noodles can be reheated in the microwave, but no water to be added, please.
Here is our food at school procedure.
EOTC in Week 8
EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) - otherwise referred to as Camp Week - will take place in Week 8 (24 - 28 November).
The week will provide for three different groupings:
Years 0-2
Years 3-4
Years 5-6
For all the information you need to know please read this general EOTC article. That article will then refer you to the specific details for each of the groups.
Emergency Evacuation Practice
Our primary concern is the health & safety of you tamariki. One of the things we do to achieve this is to have an Emergency Evacuation Plan. We hold a number of different practices throughout the year and refine the plan each time based on our learnings.
To this end we will be holding an emergency evacuation practice at the beginning of next year - Thursday 5 February. As part of the preparation can you please ensure that your mobile details are up to date and the details of those that you have listed as emergency contacts. Please contact Rachel with any changes.
For more in depth info please refer to the Emergency Evacuation Practices advisory.
Northern Suburbs Citizenship Award 2025
A huge congratulations to this year's recipient, Anandi who was presented with her award by Wellington Mayor, Andrew Little
Anandi attended the ceremony along with her proud mum, and supported by her whānau teacher Rachel, Pōhutukawa Team Lead Emma, and Principal Urs.
Rachel took the opportunity to publicly read Anandi's citation demonstrating how she exemplified Amesbury's High Five values.
To read the citation, together with information on the evening's activities, please see here.
Children's University Graduation
Well done to our 30 participants in this year's Children's University programme who graduated this week at a ceremony at Massey University's Wellington Campus attended by their parents as well as Urs and Gar Kee.
After spending the year undertaking additional out-of-school learning opportunities, they all completed enough learning hours.
For a more in depth report on the Children's programme and graduation ceremony please see Gar Kee's report.
Share & Celebrate
We were pleased once again to hold Share & Celebrate to recognise tamariki for their good deeds.
A list of who was in this week's Share & Celebrate can be found here.
We will be holding our final Share & Celebrate for the year on Friday 5 December. If you have something that your tamariki have been involved with outside of school please email the information (and photos) to their whānau teacher so that we can celebrate their achievement.
It's Time to return all Library Books and Readers
With the library closing for the year on Friday 28 November, Kirat is asking for all library books to be returned by that date. So please hunt high and low for any school books that you may have at home and ask your tamariki to bring them back to school.
Kirat has appreciated the support provided to the library this year and wants to spend the last few weeks of the year organising the book fair and preparing the library for next year.
