Kia ora e hoa mā,

It has been all go over the past couple of weeks, with our senior athletics, Northern Zone athletics, and junior sports carnival. I have been so impressed with our ākonga and their enthusiasm and ‘give it a go’ attitude at these events. At both our senior and junior sports days, students went around the different events enthusiastically and really positively, giving it their all and supporting their peers. It was great hearing the cheering happening to encourage each other, and I believe Davina and Navy both received the loudest cheers for their fabulous sprinting!

We sent a wonderfully large team off to Northern Zone Athletics to compete against other northern suburbs schools, and again ngā ākonga did themselves and our kura proud. Eilis and Demelza were so impressed with the level of participation and enthusiasm shown by our tamariki, and with their sporting spirit. Huge well done to the following students who have made it through to Interzone Athletics, competing against other primary schools from the eastern, southern and western suburbs: Shiloh, Lachlan, Jade, Ruby, Josh, Jiya, Sophia and Heidi. Ka mau te wehi, awesome work and good luck for interzones!

Our athletics events run smoothly thanks to the huge organisation and preparation that happens behind the scenes. Huge thanks to Eilis for her fabulous organisation and preparation for senior athletics. It’s a big event with a lot of different moving parts, and Eilis always thinks through every aspect so carefully. Big thanks also to Belinda, Mike, Jenny, Jack, Semisi, and Craig for helping out at the event - we can’t run these events without additional support, and your help is always very gratefully received.

Zero data site

Zero data is a new service available to support people to access important websites without using their own data. To access this site you need to be using a mobile device connected to the Spark, Skinny, One NZ, 2degrees, Warehouse Mobile, Slingshot or Orcon mobile networks.

The site enables anyone using one of the above networks to access sponsored websites without using their own data. Zero Data has added over 2000 schools and kura to this site, including Amesbury School, meaning our community can access our school website, including our digests and notices, without using their own data. There are also many other useful websites on this site.

Here is the link to the Zero Data site. Add our school into the search function to access our website; alternatively you can search the site by region - click on Wellington and scroll through the schools available. This is a fabulous service from Zero Data, ensuring that everyone can access key sites without data usage being a barrier.

Final reminder: entries for our Churton Park Poetry Competition close on Monday 6th November. We have fabulous children's author Elaine Bickall (author of 'The Little Ghost Who Lost Her Boo' and 'Starfish the Star') as our competition judge, and a chance to win Whitcoulls vouchers in our three age categories. Please follow this link for more information about the competition and how to enter.

And finally, a heads up that our main school sports field will be receiving some extra love over the next few weeks from our wonderful gardener, Louis. The field needs a bit of care and attention to flatten it out, repair any bare patches and generally bring it back to a high standard. This will mean that the main field will be roped off for a short period of time over the next couple of weeks, once Louis reaches a certain point in this process. This will ensure that the work he does is effective and the field is able to flourish.

Kia pai te rā whakata; have a lovely weekend and here’s hoping we’ll see more of the fabulous sunshine we’ve been experiencing. We look forward to seeing you all at our cultural festival and new hub opening on Friday between 4 - 6pm.

Ngā mihi nui,

Urs Cunningham
