Amesbury School is partnering with Downtown Community Ministry

DCM (Downtown Community Ministry) works at the tough end of things. When people in Wellington have no money, no food, and no roof over their heads, they go to DCM for support. DCM acknowledges that despite their amazing work, they can’t do this mahi alone. This is why they look to partner with the wider Wellington community and gain the support of local businesses, groups and individuals who give money, time, skills, goods and services. Their tagline is, “Together we can end homelessness”, and as a school, Amesbury wants to be part of this.

We have partnered with DCM to set up a food collection point in our school reception area. For any families that are able to, please add one or two small items to your weekly shop, and have your tamaiti (child) bring it in to school. Another way to approach this would be to support your tamaiti to use a small amount of their pocket money or savings to purchase a non-perishable food item for the DCM collection. It's a great learning point for tamariki (children) to do their bit in helping vulnerable people in our local area. Please see the list of wanted items for the collection point:

Our Amesbury DCM collection will be an ongoing feature in our reception area, so when you can, please make this a regular part of your family routine. Thank you for helping us support DCM to provide a welcoming space for our most vulnerable neighbours, where they can access a range of essential services from emergency food parcels, counselling and harm reduction, healthcare and more.

Ngā mihi nui,
