Years 3 to 6 trip to Wellington Museum and Matiu Somes Island - Final Details

All of our Year 3-6 ākonga will be traveling to the Wellington Museum and Matiu Somes Island with the first days this week.

Rupert's notification article advises which of the four days your tamariki will be participating and other relevant information, including what to bring.

On the day of their trip, tamariki need to be at school no later than 8.40am.

Term 2 Disco - Parent Helpers Still Needed!

The Term 2 Disco will be held in the school hall on Friday 13 June.

Things to do before then:

  • Purchase entry tickets through Kindo

  • Pre-order pizza through Kindo

  • Parent help (we need more) - please use this form

2026 Term Dates

I realise that we are not even half way through Term 2 in 2025, but we now have the dates for our 2026 school year - here.

This will enable you to plan your 2026 holidays and, as appropriate, please add then to your personal calendars.

Year 5 and 6 Mathswell Maths Competition

We looking for a team of 6 ākonga (students) to represent Amesbury at the Mathswell Maths Competition in August.

As we are limited to one team of six, we have set out criteria for selection in the event we have more interest than spaces.

Please read through the Mathswell article and if you are interested please email Urs (urs@amesbury.school.nz) with the information requested. The deadline for entries is 3pm on Monday 16 June.

ICAS Exams 2025

ICAS are on again this year and will be facilitated by Amesbury for any of our interested Year 3-6 tamariki. Read here for all of the information you need to take part.

Next steps:

  1. For those who have not participated in ICAS exams at Amesbury previously parents are required to attend a short meeting held in Pōhutukawa on either Wednesday 18 or Thursday 19 June @ 4pm-4:30pm

  2. Complete an ICAS Registration Form for each child no later than Tuesday 15 July

  3. Make payment for the exam prior to sitting the exam

Amesbury’s Got Talent 2025 - Heats this week

Entries have closed and you should have received an email advised the date of the heats for your tamariki.

  • Heats - Weeks 6 & 7

  • Finals - 2pm on Friday 27 June

Pōhutukawa Swimming Lessons - Term 3

Swimming lessons for Pōhutukawa (Years 4, 5 & 6) will be taking place on Thursdays next term.

To help us get an accurate number of students attending, please complete this form by 4pm on Monday 16 June.

Miniball Term 3 - Register Now

Registrations are now open if your tamariki wish to play miniball in Term 3. If you did not play in the current term please use this form. Others will have received an email from Amelia with a separate link.

Capital Basketball Matariki Festival

If you are interested in basketball, Capital Basketball are running a Matariki Basketball Festival.

Please note that this is not school organised so a parent will need to run/organise this if tamariki are interested.

Scholastic's Book Club - Issue 3

Issue 3 of Scholastic's Book Club issue is now available to view and for placing orders.

Please read the details of issue 3 and follow the easy link to place your order.

Online orders close on Friday 20 June.

Kelly Club

This coming week's theme is Kids Choice. We will be:

  • making pizza including making the dough

  • playing ultimate tag

  • having a chess tournament

  • a colouring competition

  • making some slime, and

  • playing different games using water balloons

Music Scholarship Opportunity

Te Paemanu Korihi, Virtuoso Strings (based in Kenepuru) is currently accepting applications for music tuition scholarships.

Information about the scheme together with FAQ can be found here.

Please note that applications close on 29 June. Limited places are available.  Applicants who progress through to the second round will be invited to a short interview, between 1 to 4 July. All applicants will be notified of their application result no later than the 10 July.

Matariki at Ngā Manu Nature Reserve

Bring the tamariki along to explore the magic of the Matariki stars through hands-on science with Sarah the Scientist from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June:

  • Tupuānuku: Plant microgreens in a newspaper pot

The competition is now open to Chinese speakers of all proficiency levels.
