School Community Gathering - New Date: Friday 27 February
Firstly, our apologies for the on/off messages on Thursday. I was up in the sunny Kapiti Coast with no prospect of rain - and it hasn't rained today either. Urs, on the other hand, was in the real world here at school where the prospects were a little different. Given the rain this morning, it was a good call by her, which I'm sure you will appreciate.
Another date has now been set - Friday, 27th February, from 4:00pm to 5:30 pm. Amesbury families are invited to join together on the main school field for an afternoon of connection, laughter, and shared experiences.
School will supply pizza and a sausage sizzle but you are most welcome to bring along your favourite family kai (food) to share with your loved ones as you enjoy a picnic on the field.
This is a great opportunity for the entire Amesbury community to get to meet new friends or to get to know others better, and enjoy the beautiful weather that we will have on the day.
Pedal Ready - Starts Monday
Pedal Ready, for our Year 5 & 6 tamariki begins on Monday (16 February) and runs for two weeks.
In his article, Brydon has set out all the info you need, including how the programme works and a link to show you which day(s) your tamariki will be taking part.
Most importantly, please ensure that your child brings their bike and helmet to school on the day(s) they are scheduled to participate.
Soft Plastic Recycling Programme - Starts Thursday
After a successful first year in 2025, our Year 6 tamariki will be collecting soft plastics from school each Thursday, starting this week, and taking them to New World Churton Park to be recycled.
To read how the programme will operate please read Gar Kee's article.
Prior to the first trip Gar Kee will send out a Google Form to all Year 6 parents seeking permission for their child to take part in this off-site walk.
Movin' March 2026
March is coming up so it's time to get organised for this year's "Movin March".
Things will operate a little differently this year, however, the focus still remains on "walk, scooter, bike, or wheel" to school throughout March. Apart from the health and environmental benefits, spot prizes are also up for grabs.
To find out how Movin' March operates, read Kirat's info article.
Children's University 2026
Registrations are now open for Year 5s & 6s to participate in Children's University in 2026.
What is Children's University? Read here.
Registrations, using this form, close on Sunday 15 March. In the meantime if you have any questions please contact Kirat.
Lunch orders
Lunch orders are now available 3 days a week through Kindo:
Thursday is still pizza day (select shops)
Wednesday and Friday orders (select ezLunch - formerly Lunchonline) for the Nada Bakery and Luxe Sushi menus
Kelly Sports Taster Sessions
Kelly Sports came in and provided some taster sessions for our Koru kids this week - lots of fun and activity. We thank Phil for his time and resources.
Kelly Sports also provides sessions after school on Wednesdays that parents can sign their tamariki up for.
For details on all of the above, please see here.
This coming week our theme is Lantern Festival. We will be:
baking some delicious cookies
getting crafty with making paper lanterns as well as colourful circle lanterns
playing a really fun game called "catch the dragon's tail".
We cannot wait to see you all there!
