Every day counts - our attendance focus for 2026

The Government has set a national target for school attendance. The School Board has mirrored this as their target also. Currently, we are just shy of achieving this target and the Board are focused on increasing attendance. You have a role in ensuring that we, as a school, meet the target.

Amesbury Speech Competition - Registrations close Thursday

This term we are holding our annual Amesbury Speech Competition and you are invited to the Heats (Thursday 26 March) and the Finals (Monday 30 March). Entries close at 4pm on Thursday 19 March.

To enable us to use the speeches and their preparation as part of each student's evidence of their literacy goals, the speech preparation will take place during class time as part of the literacy programme.

Amesbury School is partnering with Downtown Community Ministry

Downtown Community Ministry's (DCM) motto is “Together we can end homelessness” and to do this they partner with the Wellington Community to provide for the practical needs to achieve this objective.

This where the Amesbury whānau can be of assistance. We have a collection point in the school's reception area for you to drop off non-perishable items. A small contribution by a number quickly becomes a large quantity. A suggested list is included in Urs's article together with more information about DCM. A sincere thanks in advance.

Help Amesbury win $10,000 of Sports Equipment

We love sport Here at Amesbury, plus we know that it is of huge value for our tamariki.

ASB are holding their Big Little Sponsorship scheme again this year and you can play your part to help Amesbury School. We are asking you to nominate Amesbury here. In her article, Urs even provides you some answers to the questions if you want to help but have limited time to spend the time thinking of an answer. Having said that, you are encouraged to provide your own answers.

Term 2 Miniball - Registrations Open

If you are in Years 3-6 and want to play miniball in Term 2, sign up here and sign up right away because registrations close at 3pm on Monday, 23rd of March.

The grades will be Years 3 & 4, and Years 5 & 6 and is open to girls and boys.

As always, each team needs a coach/manager. If you can help out, please indication this on the Registration form.

A reminder to all of our Year 2 parents that Urs is holding a focus meeting for you on Tuesday 24 March from 5-6pm. Urs has already emailed you all of the details for the session.

Support Our Netballers: School Delegate needed

With this year's netball season not far away we are looking again for parent involvement.

Initially, we are looking for someone (or two) to put their hand up to be the school's delegate. It isn't an onerous task. See here for what we need from those who are interested.

Movin' March 2026

March is upon us so we've already got movin' for this year's "Movin March".

Things will operate a little differently this year, however, the focus still remains on "walk, scooter, bike, or wheel" to school throughout March. Apart from the health and environmental benefits, spot prizes are also up for grabs.

Lunch Orders

Lunch orders are available from Wednesday to Friday every week. All orders can now be placed or cancelled via Kindo before 9am.

  • Wednesday - Nada Bakery - Kindo ezlunch (filled breads, pies, sushi...)

  • Thursday - Pizza Hut - Kindo shop (fresh cheese pizza on a regular or gluten free base)

  • Friday - Lyxe Sushi - Kindo ezlunch (sushi, dumplings, rice dishes, steamed buns)

Only people listed in Hero will be permitted to collect students in the event of an emergency evacuation situation if you can't get here.


Absence/Medical

If a student is unwell and absent from school for 5 consecutive days due to medical reasons, we ask for a medical certificate from a health professional be provided (including the date seen, confirming the days unfit for school and estimated return date)

Absence/Away: 4 or more days away from school due to holiday or travel during term time, parents are required to email Urs/the Principal. For planned trips, this should be well in advance of the holiday/time away from school.


Uniform

Lower half clothing and long sleeved tops worn under polos must be plain black and only an Amesbury fleece or Amesbury hoodie can be worn as the warm layer over their polo top. Coats/jackets can be worn over the fleece/hoodie as an extra layer outside only.

Lost and Found

Are you missing a size 8 fleece that has the name of a former student on the label? It's being held at the office until the end of this term. If unclaimed it will be donated to the second hand uniform collection.

Kelly Club

This coming week our theme is "jesters and jokers". We will be getting creative by:

  • doing some really cool facepainting

  • having a jester race

  • baking some really yummy cookies

We can't wait to see you all there.

Kelly Club Holiday Programme

Kelly Club Holiday Programmes focus on giving children aged between 5 and 13 the opportunity to do things they enjoy in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.

The programme is packed with activities to entertain and inspire children.
