For seven years ASB bank has run their Big Little Sponsorship scheme, and this year we would like Amesbury School to win. You can help us to do this!

We know how important sport and fitness is hugely important and valuable to tamariki (children). It teaches fair play, teamwork, builds confidence, and keeps them active and healthy. At Amesbury School we seek to encourage and enable sport and movement as much as possible, and sponsorship for new and diverse sports equipment would help hugely with this.

We have registered Amesbury School for the Big Little Sponsorship 2026, and we now need you to nomiate Amebury and let ASB know why our kura should win this.

You can nominate us here.

As part of the nomination form, you will be asked to answer two pātai (questions). You are very welcome to add your own ideas - the wider range of unqiue answers, the better! However, here are some suggestions for ideas you could add:

Pātai 1: How will receiving the Big Little Sponsorship help this primary school?

  • We look to include our community in using our equipment and grounds after school and at the weekends. We have football goals, tennis nets, basketball and netball equipment that can be used by everybody. However, this also means they get a lot of use, and get weathered and damaged.

  • This injection of funding would allow the school to branch out and acquire a wider range of equipment. With a small amount of funding, we tend to stick to tried and true favourites, such as basketballs, netballs and footballs. Winning additional funding would allow us to diversify and try sports such as scooterboard basketball, obstacle courses, and sensory play that will include a much wider range of ākonga.

  • Increasing a sense of belonging at school - a wider range of equipment available for all students means no one is left standing on the sidelines. Everyone can join in and find the games / activities that appeal to them. This increases connection between ākonga and within our wider school.

  • Some students at our school can afford their own sports equipment, such as scooters, basketballs, cricket equipment. Others cannot bring this equipment from home. Winning this funding would allow us to provide a wide range of equipment for all ākonga to access, thereby ensuring every student can play and participate

Pātai 2: Why is sport important to this school, the staff, students and parents?

  • It is very important to us as a community that our tamariki are active and physically moving as much as possible. With the increase in screen time and a more sedentary lifestyle, it is easy for our tamariki to be less physically active. As a whole community, we seek to encourage engaging and fun activity as much as possible. Our school seeks to provide access to school and community equipment as much as possible, as we hugely value this.

  • Sport at Amesbury (either through the physical education programme or recreation) encourages student participation and provides the opportunity for students to learn and develop the attributes of student fair play, kindness, respect, inclusion and good sportspersonship

  • Stress relief - like many schools, we are noticing a significant increase in the level of anxiety in our young people. Physical activity is a natural outlet for anxiety, and providing a range of easily accessible equipment will make it much easier for all ākonga to join in. We find that physical movement really helps

  • Increased focus - we try to provide equipment in all learning spaces that allow for easy and quick movement (mini trampolines, wobble boards, soft play equipment, swiss balls etc.). We find this helps many ākonga with their focus and level of anxiety. Ensuring that we can provide equipment for easily accessible fitness breaks throughout the day will really help.

  • Sport at Amesbury (either through the physical education programme or recreation) reinforces our High Five Values (Capability - Connectedness - Contribution - Continuous Learning - Confidence). Sport encourages student participation and provides the opportunity for student development and understanding of student fair play, kindness, respect, inclusion and good sportspersonship.
