Onesie Day at Amesbury for Wellington Free Ambulance - Please Donate

Firstly, a huge thank you for your generous donations to Wellington Free Ambulance for Onesie/Oodie Day. We have already exceeded our initial goal.

If you haven't already done so, it's not too late, you can still donate on our Wellington Free Ambulance school fundraising page here. By doing so the donation will be doubled due to the generosity of Silk Baby who is matching donations 1 to 1 to a maximum amount which is covering all schools.

As an added incentive, if you are a competitive person, Amesbury is currently ranked second amongst the donors for all schools in the Wellington Region.

It has been a wonderful day at school with the majority of tamariki and kaimahi (staff) wearing their onesies/oodies - lots of colour and different characters! (If it wasn't so hot wearing them, I'd recommend that they become our official uniform). See the array of onesies/oodies on display at school.

Chicken Pox in Pōhutukawa

As Rachel advised you yesterday in a HERO post, we have been advised of a student in Pōhutukawa with a confirmed case of Chicken Pox.

Even if your child has been immunised for this, please keep a watch for any spots in the event that they may have a mild case.

If your child does develop chicken pox, or any infectious disease please advise the office so we can monitor trends and advise our school community as appropriate.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week)

This coming week is te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) - 14-20 Hepetema.

Te reo is a part of who we are and te Wiki o te Reo Māori is a great opportunity to learn - along with your tamariki - a little more te reo. Every little bit helps -ahakoa he iti, he pounamu (although it is small, it is precious).

Have a read through Amaria's article and pick up a few more words and phrases that you can include in your everyday interactions with others.

Inter Regional Cross Country

We offer our very best wishes to Annabel as Amesbury's sole representative at the Inter Regional Cross Country in Christchurch on the last day of term.

There was no luck involved as Annabel qualified from our school cross country, then from Northern Zone, onto the Wellington cross country and finally the Wellington Regional cross country. A magnificent achievement!

Annabel, however, will not be the only one with Amesbury connections at the Inter Regional event. Two former Amesbury students - Josh (Annabel's brother) & Johnson - both now in Year 8 have also qualified.

We look forward to hearing how you all ran.

Disco Success

Our Term 3 school discos were held last Friday and, as always, they were extremely popular.

This term the theme was Pasifika. The Pasifika club tamariki ably guided by Charlotte planned the very successful event with all of the funds raised going to pay for the Pasifika tutor who provided lessons every Monday to the entire school.

Photos can be found here.

Senior Swimming Sports

A great time had by all at the recent Pōhutukawa Swimming Sports.

Some opted for the competitive races - demonstrating their swimming prowess, while others enjoyed the water-based activities available,

To see what happened, including results and photos please go to Rachel's article.

Celebrating our Futsal Superstars

Amesbury had over 40 of our tamariki involved in the Futsal Festival earlier this week playing against other school teams from all over Wellington.

The event was aimed at players of all abilities focused on development while having fun. With very little downtime between games fun was certainly had and plenty of energy exerted as judged by the tiredness and happy faces demonstrated on the journey back to school.

For a rundown of the two days of futsal, including photos, please see Amelia's article.

Touch Rugby - Term 4

Touch Rugby is on again in Term 4 and we are looking for registrations - both girls & boys - in all grades. See here for all the details.

The focus is on is on fundamentals, participation and fun.

As always, we need a coach with each team, so if you are available, please include your information in the registration form.

If your child(ren) is/are interested please register here. Registrations will close at 4pm on the 10th of October.

St. Brigid's Kapa Haka Festival - Saturday

Once again Amesbury's very own Kapa Haka group will be performing at this year's St. Brigid's Kapa Haka Festival on Saturday (13 September) at Newlands College.

Take the opportunity to go along and support our tamariki who will be performing between 12.40 - 1.40pm.

All the best to the team who have worked so hard. We have no doubt that you will proudly represent the school.

Clyde Quay School Raffle

Clyde Quay School in Wellington currently have a New Zealand wide raffle running to raise money for their playground. The amazing prize? an all-expenses-paid 5-star trip to Thailand.

All schools need additional funding so we support our fellow school in their endeavours and, if you enter you may even be the one jetting off to Thailand.

Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching

As a parent, watching your child struggle with an eating disorder can feel overwhelming and exhausting. I know this journey personally, both from lived experience and from supporting a loved one, and I also know that full recovery is possible.

Through eating disorder recovery coaching, I walk alongside young people and their families, helping them make peace with food, movement, and their bodies. You and your child can be supported every step of the way.

Let’s connect and arrange a free consultation today.
