Kākāriki:
In P.E we have been learning how to throw, catch and use quoits. You need to show your strong arms, point to where you want to throw it and throw it hard. We have learnt about fractions and how to cut objects up in maths. In literacy, we love learning to spell and learning new sounds. Mandarin has been fun because we get to colour in, do competitions and wear traditional Chinese clothes. We like the drumming dance and the outfits during Pacific Dance. We have also loved doing Kapa Haka, passion projects, and the speech competition.
Karaka:
We have enjoyed the Pasifika dance because we get to move our bodies. We also enjoyed the Kapa Haka performance because it is fun getting ready and being on stage.
The swimming carnival was fun because we were racing in the pool.
In learning, we have liked maths this term because we like answering challenging questions. We have loved PE because we get to learn new things like throwing overarm and underarm, how to aim and high knees. We also love literacy, because we like writing about animals. In health, we enjoyed doing activities like how to be a super learner. Art has been fun because we learned how to shade in different ways. We like buddy whānau time because we can colour with the older kids.
Kōwhai:
Inquiry is fun because we did art and crafts. Maths was great because we did different types of questions (like division and addition), and we could use IXL. We like Strand Maths because we learnt new shapes. We also liked P.E because it is fun and it makes you fit. We liked learning art skills like blending colours because we learned how to make different colours. We loved Passion Projects because it's fun making stuff and doing crafts, and also showing our passion.
Pasifika Dance was fun because we looked at the costumes. We also liked going to the Pasifika disco because we got to buy bracelets.
We loved Kapa Haka because it is exciting.
The Swimming Carnival was fun because we could choose to do races.
Māwhero:
PE was a great challenge, throwing balls, running and jumping hurdles, all did well to try new things and challenge themselves a bit more each session
Pacific Dance lessons were great fun. We enjoyed the disco too.
During discovery time we made new friends while joining in activities we love. Choosing time in the morning is a great way to start the day. We love building obstacle courses, putting together puzzles, drawing and colouring pictures, painting, making worlds for dinosaurs, building things from cardboard boxes and constructing creations from mobilo and other blocks.
In inquiry, we loved looking at maps, learning facts about Pacific Island countries and following our interest to learn more about coral reefs. It is fun to learn about the borders of places within the 7 continents. Next term, we hope to learn more about the world’s oceans.
We love singing our kapa haka waiata and participating in the morning karakia. It’s fun to use our Māori kupu in Maths and other times during the day, like when we look at our calendar.
We are proud of learning to read and write. Some have learned their first sounds, others are making words using digraphs. Silly sentences helped make things more fun. Our handwriting looks great!
Our group has grown a lot this term in size, and we have worked hard to get along, include others and treat everyone kindly. Māwhero is a fun place!
