What do I need to wear?
The day before the festival, we will send a named bag home with your child. The uniform will be inside this bag. We ask that you take special care of this and arrive at the festival already changed(space is limited so no changing rooms at the college).
Boys: If your son is in Pōhututkawa, we would like them to wear their school uniform sports top. If you don’t have one, please borrow one from a friend. All other boys will be fitted with a ‘sash’ that goes across their chest when they arrive at Onslow. It is advised that boys wear black underwear or short black shorts underneath their Kapa Haka uniform.
Girls: Other than the dress (which will be provided), it would be much quicker for us if you can tie your daughter's hair back, similar to a pony style so that we can fix the feather to their hair tie. It is advised that girls wear black underwear or black shorts/tights underneath their dress too.
What time do I need to arrive?
Pōhutukawa & Harakeke Hub: 8:00am
All tamariki(children) from this hub will be part of the Pōwhiri (welcoming in representatives from other kura(schools). Arriving at 8:00am allows us to finalise their uniform, and apply moko or moko kauae before the Pōwhiri starts at 8:30am. You are more than welcome to be a part of this too, just follow our lead.
Koru Hub: 9:00am
It is highly likely that the Pōwhiri may still be going but there will be parents waiting for your child when you arrive. Again, they will need uniforms finalised, apply moko or moko kauae for a 9:30am start. You and your child are more than welcome to be a part of the Pōwhiri too, just follow our lead and arrive at the earlier time of 8:00am.
Timetable for the day:
I have attached the timetable for the day and as you can see, it is a big one. To make things run smoothly, we are asking any whānau watching their child, to stay inside the hall for the full hour. This means that all kura have a full audience and also allows the festival to run smoothly. Even though we are first on stage, we will be supervising your child/ren until the first session is finished.
