In 2025, Amesbury continued its second year of Te Mātāpuna Mātātahi (Children’s University) in partnership with Te Kunenga Ki Pūrehuroa (Massey University).
Some previous participants continued their learning journey from last year and some new faces joined us this year. In total, Amesbury School had a total of 30 students (year 5-6) engage in this programme.
In short, Children's University (CU) partners with schools and local places to encourage and reward children for taking part in out-of-school learning opportunities. Each child is equipped with a passport and an online account to document their experiences. Each activity earns them learning hours. When they collect enough hours, they take part in a special graduation ceremony.
This year, the graduation ceremony was held at Massey University’s: The Great Hall on the 11th November and was attended by Urs, Gar Kee and the whānau of the graduates. The turnout also marked the largest Wellington turnout since the programme began, and it was wonderful to see our students’ effort honoured and to celebrate their dedication.
The principals and key note speakers on stage sang “Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi.” In particular, the line: “Whai-a te maramatanga, me te aroha” which translates to seek knowledge and love, was especially fitting for our graduates. They worked hard in seeking knowledge with curiosity and heart and so we extend a warm and mighty congratulations to the following graduates - we are proud of your hard mahi and resilience.
Congratulations to: Abhirup, Adrik, Alana, Alicia, Anandi, Andy T, Annie O, Annie L, Ariana J, Arnav, Calista, Eliano, Fabeeha, Gabriella, Hanson, Hashem, Isaac, Jedidiah (Jedi), John, Jules, Justin W, Kiaan, Kishore, Kyle D, Miesha, Rufus, Sebastian (Basti), Sueli, Won Won and Zara S.
