Northern Suburbs Citizenship Award 2025

Since 2015, local Northern Wellington schools have awarded a Year 6 or Year 8 student leader with the Citizenship Award each year. The award was created by former Councillor Malcom Sparrow, who firmly believed in celebrating and promoting leadership and citizenship in our tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people). This year there are 16 schools throughout the northern suburbs who are part of this initiative.

Mayor Andrew Little opened the ceremony and spoke directly to all of our award winners. Anandi's award citation was read out by Rachel, her very proud whānau teacher. Rachel, Emma, and Urs all attended the ceremony in Johnsonville on Friday, along with Anandi's very proud mum.

As Rachel explained to the audience, Anandi embodies our Amesbury High Five values, and truly exemplifies the spirit of responsibility, kindness, and proactive community engagement. Click on this link to read Rachel's speech in full.

It was a delight to share this wonderful occasion with Anandi and her mum, and we hope she is extremely proud of herself. Anandi's name has now been added to the previous ten names on the citizenship shield that sits proudly in the cabinet in our reception area.

Tino kino te pai, Anandi - well done!
