In each of the nine threads students were engaged in there was a range of wonderful learning opportunities and tamariki enjoyed a number of outings linked to the theme of their thread.
Below is a glimpse into what each thread got up to.
Thank you to the parent helpers who made it possible for all the activities and trips to go ahead. Thank you also to our team of amazing teachers for their huge efforts planning and organising such a wide range of engaging learning opportunities throughout the week.
Year 3 & 4 World of Wearable Art
We had a fantastic week in the Wearable Art group for EOTC! A major highlight was our visit to Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School, where ākonga were able to see how creativity, design, and performance can lead to exciting career pathways in the future. The students also loved taking part in the Zero Waste Education programme, which challenged them to design and create their own wearable art pieces. Their final creations were outstanding, and every ākonga should feel incredibly proud of what they achieved—especially knowing they made it all using recycled materials!

Year 3 & 4 Sport
Our Year 3 and 4 sport thread had an awesome jam packed week of fun. A couple of highlights from the week was the Pool on Monday. The kids had fun floating around the lazy river, riding the waves in the wave pool, and sliding down the hydroslide! Another highlight was spending the day at Aku Tangi learning new sports like Gaga ball, volleyball, badminton, spike ball, and an inflatable obstacle course! We got to refine our basketball skills with KiwiHoops, and design our own games. Well done to our tamariki for giving everything a go, you guys were awesome!

Year 3 & 4 Art & Animals
Our recent EOTC week, focused on animals and habitats, was a huge success! The week began with local habitat exploration in Churton Park and was followed by a major highlight: a trip to the Zoo on Tuesday. Students loved observing animal adaptations firsthand, as well as learning plenty of interesting facts from the Zoo kaiako.
The fun continued back at school on Wednesday with some exciting surprise visitors! The children were delighted when the mobile petting zoo came to visit and they got to enjoy feeding, grooming and petting the donkey, miniature horse, three bunnies, a sheep, a dog, and a baby goat. This was a definite highlight for the students and a wonderful opportunity for close-up animal encounters. The tamariki then poured their inspiration into fantastic animal models, constructing them using a variety of materials like cardboard, tape, paper, and paint

Year 3 & 4 Food & Gardening
We had an awesome week together exploring food and gardening. Ākonga planned, budgeted and purchased ingredients and expressed their creativity in the kitchen! We had a range of dishes, from cakes, to pasta, to various beverages. We also enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Botanic Gardens. Some of the best parts were: using a microscope to find the different creatures that live in soil, planting in our milk bottles, and trying kawakawa tea. Hopefully, all the tamariki can put some of their new learning into practice at home!

Year 5 & 6 Sport
We had a week full of fun sports activities and everyone was super tired by the end of it! A highlight was spending the day at Ākau Tangi on Thursday. We learnt lots of new games including Spikeball and Gagaball, so there may be some new things being added to the Christmas wish lists.
We also enjoyed a walk through Otari Wilton's bush, creating new games and teaching them to other students as well as a day of basketball with Kiwihoops.

Year 5 & 6 Art
We had an awesome week of art during EOTC! We spent time using clay, making tie dye tee shirts, and making different types of paintings. We also got to go to Pātaka and experience making tapa print. Another highlight of the week were our animal masks which were made out of compostable materials including a glue made from sugar! It was great to see everyone's smiles and joy when creating art.

Year 5 & 6 History
We spent the first half of the week learning about the history and location of forts and gun emplacements around Wellington Harbour, including Wright's Hill Fortress and Fort Ballance. In addition, we learnt about the Ngake and Whātaitai taniwha pūrākau (story), as well as the locations of the Wellington Pā sites. On Wednesday, we had a fabulous guided tour through the underground parts of Wright's Hill Fortress. John Innes, our expert guide, kept it interesting and relevant to the students. They were engaged for over two hours of talking and walking through the tunnels, and wowed John with their knowledge. Afterwards, we went on a short outdoor walk to the three gun emplacements and the lookout point, with its expansive views of the harbour. On Thursday, we spent the day at Te Papa exploring Tangata o le Moana: The Story of Pacific People in New Zealand, and the Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War exhibition. On Friday, we had a fabulous trip to Matiu / Somes Island. It was a little blustery, but we made it all the way around the island, seeing the wildlife, the lighthouse, the anti-aircraft gun batteries, and identifying different locations in the harbour.

Year 5 & 6 Animals
Week eight was a wonderful week learning all about how animals have adapted to their environment. We started by joining the sport group and animals spotted at Otari Wilton’s Bush. Highlights included seeing kaka, piwakawaka and giant eels.
On Tuesday we joined with the animal art group at Wellington Zoo where a teacher gave us a guided tour of the gibbons, tuatara and otters. We also even got a private feeding of the otters. The teacher taught us all about how animals adapt to their environments.
Wednesday saw us join with the animal art group again, this time for a surprise! A petting zoo! This was a definite highlight of the week. After the petting zoo we had an ‘explore session’ where ākonga interacted with many different animal artefacts including displays of insects and a bat. Learners then started to create their own animal that best suited a specific habitat. This rolled into Thursday and when we also did some animal quizzes and other fun activities.
EOTC week was a very fun and educational week for all involved.

Year 5 & 6 Music
Throughout the week, students took part in a rich range of music activities. They learned about melody, rhythm, and how the voice works, and used this knowledge to write and perform their own songs. They explored K-Pop and musical theatre, trying out new styles and creating performance pieces together. Students also experimented with digital music by remixing sounds, layering tracks, beatboxing, rapping, and creating in BandLab and Chrome Music Lab. By the end of the week, they had built confidence, tried new creative skills, and proudly created music they were excited to share. Here is an album of photos and videos taken and recorded of their music from the week.
This folder is included as this contains music created from Capital E.
Friday
Unfortunately due to the weather forecast the year 3/4 trip to Matiu/Somes Island was cancelled. However, they enjoyed a treat of popcorn and a movie to end our busy week.
For the Year 5 & 6’s, they had a fabulous trip to Matiu/Somes Island after the weather cleared. It was a little blustery, but they made it all the way around the island, seeing the wildlife, the lighthouse, the anti-aircraft gun batteries, and identifying different locations in the harbour.
