Given the rough weather on Thursday this week, Pōhutukawa's athletics day at Newtown Park was cancelled. The venue is so popular that it was not possible to secure a postponement date. Not to worry though. We have a back up plan!
Monday (19 October) Practice day: Block one and two. Pōhutukawa (yr 4, 5 & 6) students will practice their athletics skills by rotating through events in groups at school.
Tuesday (20 October) Event day: Block one and two (Approx 9.15am - 12.50pm). All Pōhutukawa students will rotate through athletics events on the field at school. They will compete in Vortex, Quoits, High jump, long jump and a series of sprints. Ākonga will compete in gendered year groups.
Parent help: A few parents have said they can help on the day. Thanks so much! More help would be greatly appreciated so if you can be available on Tuesday (for even a few hours) please let me know at brydon@amesbury.school.nz
Parent cheer-leaders: The good thing about having the event at school is it means more parents can attend to cheer their tamariki on! If you are free for some of the day you are very welcome to pop down to school. The more parents cheering, the greater the atmosphere.
Uniform and food: For both Monday and Tuesday please make sure your child has suitable shoes for running (no crocs please, even in sports mode). They should also wear their sports top if they have one. They should also have some extra food if possible as learners get extra hungry on sports days!
Questions? Contact brydon@amesbury.school.nz .
Due to the nature of the day it is difficult to give an indication of when each student will participate in each event. However the whole event should run between around 9.15am and 12.50pm.
